Bank Holiday Weekend. Dave Forrester finished second in
his heat of the 1500m at the NCAA Eastern Preliminaries on 27
May recording 3.48.76. Dave qualified for the NCCA finals at
Eugene in Oregon. A number of athletes competed at Warrington in the George Edwards Memorial Meeting. Thomas Taylor Caton-Hand set a new U15 club discus record of 27.06 in addition to recording 4.94 in the long jump and 1.49 in the high jump. Jessica Leonard recorded 10.6 (75) and 21.5(150). Heather Drilingcourt won the long jump (4.72) and finished second in the 100m (13.0). Elisha Cane contested the shot (7.75) and discus (15.76). Bethany Baxter collected two silver (4.28 -long jump), (13.4 - 100) and was fourth in the shot putt (7.99). Natalie Bannister had a good warm up over the 300m hurdles (52.9). Michael Jackson lost narrowly to Michael Hughes in the discus (24.10) to (25.25) but responded with a win in the shot putt (10.12) against Mike's 8.43. James made an excellent debut in the junior men's competition with a shot putt (8.84) and long jump (3.68). Tricia Spark recorded 14.0 (100) and long jumped (3.77). Shelby Jack ran 14.) (100) for fifth and David Barrow made a spendid debut in the U11 boys with third place in the sprint. Results: Five young athletes attended the Trafford Medal meeting on Bank Holiday Monday with some outstanding results. Jamie Dinnar achieved three personal bests, three first places (shot (7.68) long jump (4.76) and a new club record of 33.79 in the U13 javelin. Daniel Elston finished 6th in the U13 boys 800m with a new pb time of 2.31.9 and 5th in the Long jump with 4.22m Rachel Woosey finished 5th in her u15 girls 800m with a pb of 2.26.9 and recorded 1.35 (high jump) Rachel Mcgoldrick got pb in the U15s 800m with 2.36.0 and Rosie Johnson had a great run in the u13s 1200m with 3.59.5 Well done to all the young athletes who have trained hard and are now looking forward to the Merseyside Schools on the 12th June. Results Northern U17 and U15 Championships - Leigh 29/30 May There was a double medal success for St Helens-Sutton when Michael Causer took the silver in the long jump with a personal best 6.30m and Matty Shirling won bronze in the U15, 1500m in 4.24.73. Michael unfortunately did not realise he had won a place in the 100m final after recording 11.44 secs in his heat. Sophie Rigby was fifth in the long jump (4.66) and tenth in the high jump. Patricia Spark took sixth in the shot 31.07. Jamie Webb was eighth in the final of the 800m recording 2.04.75 qualifying in his heat. Rachel McGoldrick was sixteenth in the final of the 1500m (5.23.17) while twin Maria recorded 2.41 in her heat of the 800m. Match 23 May 2010, Wavertree. HEATHER BREAKS ANOTHER CLUB RECORD AND
OBTAINS THE ESSA ENTRY STANDARD. Six athletes and four officials attended the second junior League match, held at a very sunny Wavertree stadium. There were two female athletes: Heather Drillingcourt and Tricia Spark. For the men there was Adam Nicholls (second claim), Ste Clague, Nathan Orr and Jamie White. Five personal best performances were obtained and another club record in the female 100m by Heather, who also obtained the ESSA entry standard for this event with a time of 12.5. Heather also obtained a personal best in the triple jump with 10.08 and finished second in the long jump with 4.70. Tricia obtained a personal best in the 100m with a time of 13.7 and finished third in both the hammer 31.19 and shot 7.98. Adam finished second in the long jump with 6.14 and sixth in the A 100m in a time of 11.3. Nathan also obtained personal bests in the long jump and 100m. Ste finished fourth A in the 800m as did Jamie in the B equivalent. Ste went on to win the 2km steeple chase in a personal best performance of 7.08.1 and Jamie competed straight after his 800m in the 400m finishing sixth with a personal best performance of 59.3. A big thank you must go to our officials: Chris Dempsey, Colin Spark, George Mullineux and Ian Hayburn, who gave up their time to gain some valuable points for the team. Merseyside Schools Track and Field Championships Entries The Merseyside Schools Track and Field Championships will be held at Bebington Oval on the 12 June 2010. Adrian Webb will be team manager on the day and will be taking a St Helens team to compete at this event comprising of all the Schools in the Borough. There will be a range of abilities competing on the day and it is open to everybody who is interested. time of 36.18 NW Championships - Trafford - 15 May St Helens-Sutton athletes collected four individual titles and six medals at the inaugural North West Championships held at Stretford. Thaddeus-Anim-Somuah won the 100m in 11.1, Heather Drillingcourt taking the junior women's title in 12.96. Thaddeus also collected bronze in the 200 (23.0) and Heather silver in the long jump (4.74). John Ashcroft is the new junior 1500m champion, recording 3.58.52, while Matthew Crehan took the junior 3000 title in 9.10.27. (PT) Results Over 60's athletes Liverpool John Moores University are investigating the effects of insulin resistance in the elderly and how this impacts exercise performance. They are looking to recruit subjects aged over 60 years of age who regularly train and are not on any medications that influence metabolism. O60 Study Liverpool Women's 10k Sunday 9 May Rosie O'Hagan led a team of eight at the Liverpool Women's 10k finishing in 47.58, half a minute ahead of Helena McGoldrick with Cecilia Schroeder (50.53) racing her way back to fitness. Lyn White (53.00) was 46 seconds ahead of Lindsay Wilson while Dorothy Fairhurst's 58.59 earned her third place in the O65 category. Jane Ashcroft, fresh from her recent track run, recorded 61.36 with Lisa Cashman completing the course in 62.09. (PT). Results. Cheshire County Championships - Crewe 8/9 May Mark Davies is the club's latest county champion winning the Cheshire steeplechase title in 12.32.9. Shelby Jack narrowly missed out on two medals finishing fourth in the 100 (13.7) and fifth in the 200 (29.0). In each case Shelby ran her fastest time in the final. Rachel and Maria McGoldrick finished sixth and seventh in the 800m in 2.39.6 and 2.41.4. (PT) Results Merseyside Track & Field Championships - Saturday 8 May, Wavertree. There were some outstanding performances and four club records broken, at a very cold and windy Merseyside County Championships last weekend. We had two female County Champions; Heather Drillingcourt in the U20 long jump with a personal best of 4.93, which would have placed her second in the senior equivalent. Heather also went on to break club records in the 100m finishing an excellent second in 12.6 and finishing fourth in the 200m with a record of 27.0. Our other Champion was Tricia Spark taking the U17s hammer with 29.18. Tricia also finished second in the shot with a putt of 7.90 and silver medals were also won by Rachel Wilcock in the U17s long jump (3.55) and Bethany Baxter in the U15s long jump (4.56). Three athletes won bronze medals; Sophie Rigby in the U17s high jump with 1.45, Rachel Woosey in the U15s 800m in 2.31.3 and Rosie Johnson in the U13s 1200m in 4.05.4. Also competing were Lauren Wilcock in the U13s long jump and 800m, Beth Baxter in the U15s 100m and 200m, Vicky Lamb in the U15s 800m and Lucy Griffiths in the U13s 800m finishing well with a time of 2.46.0. There were seven County Champions in the male events. Taylor Caton Hand won TWO titles one in the U15s long jump with a leap of 5.51, and again in the U15s Discus with a throw of 23.56. John Ashcroft won the U20s 1500m with a time of 4.06 and Michael Causer won the U17s long jump, with an excellent performance of 6.17. Jamie Webb comfortably won the U17s 800m in 2.06.1. Jamie Dinnar took the U13s long jump title with 4.40 and his team mates Daniel Elston, Adam Woosey and Jonathon Causer all competed with Jamie to take second, third and fourth places. Matty Shirling won his U15 1500m in style and also achieved the ESAA qualifying time, winning in 4.19.2. Thaddeus Amin Somuah won silver in the Senior men’s 200m in a club record time of 22.2, Adam Woosey finishing runner-up in the U13s 100m with 15.0. Daniel Elston added another silver to his long jump performance with an excellent second place in the U13s 800m with a time of 2.38.4. Thaddeus went on to break another club record finishing third in the Senior men’s 100m in a time of 10.9. Tom Green won two bronze medals in the U17 100m with11.3 and in the 200m with a time of 23.4. Ste Clague also took bronze in the U20 800m (2.13) as did Jake Healey in the U20 3000m (10.01.8), Jamie White in the U17s 1500m (4.27.2), and Chris Garrity in the U15s 400m. Ian Cooney also competed on the day finishing 6th in the Senior men’s 100m with a time of 12.0, Michael Causer finished a very close fourth in the U17s 100m with a time of 11.5. Taylor Caton Hand was fourth in the U15s 100m. Chis Garrity ran in both the U15s 100m (14.5) and 200m (29.7) and Adam Woosey finished fifth in the U13s 800m (2.46.4). David Forrester finished tenth in the above race in an early season time of 3.43.32. Northern Track and Field League Ellesmere Port 1 May The club finished second to West Cheshire with a fine all round team
display at Ellesmere Port. The final scores were West Cheshire 466; St
Helens-Sutton 342; Leigh 320; LPS 299; Trafford 277; Liverpool 207. The day started off with fantastic results in the pole vault with both ladies; Emma McClatchey and Josie Barrow winning the A and B stream. We also had two deputants, both performing extremely well: Louise Hayes and Tricia Spark. Louise finished 5th in the B long jump and 3rd (B) in her first ever 3000m on the track. Tricia competed in the hammer, 2nd (B) 31.20 and the shot, 3rd (B) 7.81. She also managed to blast the B 200m finishing an excellent 2nd (29.9). Sophie Rigby had an excellent win in the (A) long jump (5.13) came 2nd in the (A) high jump (1.50) and finished 3rd in the (A) 100m (13.8). Her team mate, Jenny Lamb ran exceptionally well, improving on last year. She finished 3rd in the (A) 200m (30.8) and 4th in the (B) 100m (14.7). Once again Jane Ashcroft volunteered to stand in for the (B) 1500m finishing a well deserved 3rd. Josie Barrow also competed in the 400m at short notice finishing 5th and came 2nd in the (B) high jump (1.50). Amy Hughes surprised herself when she jumped for the very first time for the club in the triple jump, recording 9.10 to finish 3rd. Emma McClatchey, her team mate in the B equivalent also did extremely well to finish 2nd with a jump of 8.39. Amy also came 5th in the (B) discus alongside Kathryn who also finished 5th (A). Natalie Bannister managed to race in both hurdles events even though she wasn’t feeling well and had to go home not long after. She finished 4th in the 400mH and 2nd in the 100mH. In the ladies javelin Emma finished 3rd (A) (21.72) and Kathryn finished 5th (B). Both ladies relay teams did very well, both running against strong teams. The 4x100m team of Sophie, Jenny, Amy and Tricia finished an excellent 3rd and the 4x400m team of Gemma, Josie, Louise and Jenny finished strongly in 5th position.
