The club has decided to support the Manchester Area Cross Country league again
this year, as it offers a greater range of competition.
The club still aims
to have an active participation in the historic L&D league, however turnout in
the MACCL is preferred. The L&D fixture provides one race only per event for
Senior Men, however Juniors and Women may also run. Where dates do not clash
athletes are still encouraged to take part in these well established local
events.

Northern Veterans Track and Field League - Leigh 4
August
Inspired by the club spirit shown at Wavertree a quartet of male veterans
competed in the Northern Track and Field League at Leigh Sports Village.
Phil Robinson contested eight events (100;200;400;HJ;LJ; DT;HT; SP),
as a warm up for this weekend's multi event contest at Sport City. Kenny
Williams took up where he left off on Sunday adding the DT, HT and
SP to the 100m. Michael Hughes stayed with the field
events (HT, DT and SP) while Gary Ireland won the SP,
failed to record a mark in the HT but broke the club's
discus record with 35.53m adding 1.11m to the previous best
set by Phil Robinson in 2005. In true sporting fashion
Phil was the first to congratulate him.
Results:
Northern Track and Field League: 1 August
Match result:
1 Trafford 371; 2 West Cheshire 358.5; 3 LPS 341.5; 4 Liverpool 337; 5 St
Helens-Sutton 329; 6 Leigh Harriers 264.
Final League Table:
1 West Cheshire 22; 2 Trafford 16; 3 St Helens-Sutton 15 (1349); 4 LPS 15
(1303.5); 5 Liverpool 6; 6 Leigh 10.
The club narrowly missed a place in the Promotion match in two weeks' time,
despite a brilliant effort from a scratch team who dealt with absences through
injury, illness, holidays and other factors, with a performance which
demonstrated good club spirit and commitment. Bearing in mind that at the start
of the season the club would have regarded third place as optimistic, to finish
ahead of LPS, Liverpool and Leigh was a major achievement on which we can build
in 2011. The results will be sent by PDF as soon as they are available. In the
interim they be accessed on the Northern Athletics website under the track and
Field link.
We had several club records including 12.21 in the shot putt by
Gary Ireland, a new junior steeplechase record of 10.12.7
by John Ashcroft, Stan Erlam becoming the oldest person to
represent the club closely followed by Kenny Williams, who only came to
watch but stepped up to the mark in both sprints.
