August 2011 Track Summary Results for the Warrington Terry Davies Memorial Meeting and Trafford YAs meeting can be found by following these links. For Trafford Results For Warrington - Results Birchwood 10k 21 August Gemma Connolly was third lady in 37.06 and Maurice Collins was seventeenth 045 in 40.07. Karen Harrison, one of Dorothy's training group completed the course in 1.06.37 (1.06.16) finishing 23rd in her age group. National U17 and U15 Championships - Bedford 20/21 August. Michael Causer and Taylor Caton-Hand each contested the final of their respective age group long jump. Taylor also did the triple jump taking fourth place. Matthew Shirling finished eleventh in the final of the 1500m with an improved time on that he ran in his heat. Congratulations to all. Results can be found here Academic Success: Club members are not only good athletes they have brains as well. Following the A level results John Ashcroft will be going to Bristol to read maths, Heather Drillingcourt, Josie Barrow and Kathryn Sumner will be attending Edge Hill studying PE, Educational Psychology and Business respectively, Lucy Croft will be at JMU in Liverpool for Nursing Studies, while Amy Hughes will be studying Law at Liverpool. Lauren Bradshaw is taking a foundation course in Drama at Wigan while Natalie Garrity is going to Bangor. David Griffiths had excellent results in Maths, French and P.E. and will be studying maths at Liverpool University. Congratulations to all.

Windows Dream Trail Race Sunday 11th September.
Time is running out to enter our club's first trail event, a spectacular race over the parkland surrounding Dream. Don't forget this will be a friendly, family event and there is also the mini trail for 6 to 11 years old, this can be entered on the day. The list of sponsors who are taking part is growing week by week and our latest signing is DW Sports. They have kindly offered to donate prizes for the race. Each runner will receive a free Day Pass for their facilities, this is in addition to prizes already announced. We have calculated that each runner will receive a goody bag that is worth at least 200% of their entry fee. Northern League Div2W Trafford 14 August. In the early part of the new millennium the club had a yo-yo existence regularly moving between division 2 and division 3. Sunday's magnificent result at Stretford ensured we have now completed five straight seasons in division 2 (West). It's a success built on three main pillars. Firstly, as far as possible, we try to cover all events, secondly, athletes are coming through the age-groups and slotting into the team and third, we have a number of athletes willing to cover a variety of events, not just their own. With some new athletes available for 2012 and others returning from work and study commitments, the club can be confident of competing, although, of course, some athletes will be away at university.
The club finished third behind
West Cheshire and LPS but ahead of Trafford, SWAC and
Altrincham,
to clinch a sixth season in division in 2012. Michael Causer set
new U17 and Senior records club records in the long
jump (6.83), John Ashcroft established a new junior
400H record (using senior implements) with 62.1. Other
performances will no doubt be included in Ian and Sue's reports.

Ladies' Report. The ladies' team produced an excellent performance finishing second in points to Trafford and ahead of all the other competing teams in the ladies' contest. Every event, bar the B pole vault, was contested. This was achieved by volunteers stepping into the vacancies which occurred when two athletes were unavoidably unable to compete. Natalie Bannister contested the B HJ, winning with a pb 1.35, while Jenny Lamb tackled the B TJ and was rewarded with a new pb. Jenny and Rachel Wilcock stepped up to compete in the 400m in addition to their shorter sprint duties. Sophie Rigby and Heather Drillingcourt got the team off to a good start with second A and first B in the long jump, Sophie adding a clearance for extra points in the pole vault and Heather finishing second in the A TJ. Gemma Connolly contested all three distance races, winning the 3000 with selfless support from Julia Eccleston, who won the B 3000m and Louise Hayes who stepped in to run the B 1500. Karen Marsh finished second in the B 400H and took up the challenge of the 200 and high hurdles. Natalie Mullineux travelled from London to compete and surprised herself by winning the B hammer with Tricia Spark finishing second in the A. The pair also produced solid performances in the shot putt. Lucy Croft was second in the B Discus and joined Natalie throwing the javelin. A special thanks to our officials who experienced showers and sunshine but carried on regardless. Roger McCall, George Mullineux, John Irwin, Chris Dempsey, Dave Morley, Colin Spark, Janet Holmes and Pam Appleton. Further thanks to all those who provided transport and who were vocal in their support. Finally, thanks to Phil Thomas for his pre match-day administration and selection. Ladies' Team Manager Notice of AGM 5th September. Annual General Meeting of St Helens Sutton Athletic Club Bull and
Dog, Marshall’s Cross Road Please do your best to attend, the Committee needs the support of its members to conduct the business of the Club. Everyone has something to offer, no experience needed! A notice is displayed in the Clubhouse for the nomination of Committee members. Nominations can also be made via e-mail to the Secretary – Christine Dempsey dempsey90@blueyonder.co.uk and should be received 2 weeks prior to the AGM. Trafford Grand Prix 9 August. Gemma Connolly was less than half a second from breaking the club 1500m record with 4.49.91, John Ashcroft set a pb 3.52.93, Nathan Brown recorded 4.21.72 and Phil Robinson ran 2.31.85 (800). Results: Northern U17/U15 Championships - Cudworth 6/7 August
Seven club athletes took part in the North of England Championships at
Cudworth.
Taylor Caton-Hand completed day one with a silver medal in the triple jump (12.32) and a bronze in the long jump (5.74). Patricia Spark finished fourth with a 35.75 hammer throw while Rachel McGoldrick reached the final of the 1500 (5.24.57) with sister Maria recording a pb of 2.33.09 in the 800m.
On Sunday there were gold medals for Matt Shirling
who ran a brilliant 1500m (3.57.92) and Michael Causer
who won the long jump with
a pb (6.69) and new club record. Rachel Woosey
ran two great races to reach both the 100m and 200m
finals.
Well done to all of them.
Matt and Michael have also been selected for the
UK Schools Games in Sheffield on 1st - 4th September.
This will be a great experience for both of them and we wish them
both good luck.
