December 2011

Christmas Break:

The Sports Centre is closed from 23 December 2011 to 3 January 2012. Training sessions will continue with individual coaches throughout the Christmas period.

Indoor Meeting - Eastlands 18 December.

Four club athletes competed in Manchester where Chloe Rigby set a pb of 1.66 to win the high jump, while sister Sophie recorded 4.72 in the long jump.

Taylor Caton-Hand won the shot Putt (9m) and was fourth in the long jump (6.08) Michael Causer was second in the long jump with a leap of 6.48.

Christmas Handicap: Sherdley Park, Sunday 18 December

For the second year running the snow and frost came along for the club's Christmas Handicap. This year however, it thawed in time and the sun came out to shine.
There was a good turn out of the clubs younger athletes and really pleasing to see so many parents joining in the fun and supporting their children.

There was a new course this year and a "race to the finish" handicap system that set off the Senior runners on handicapped intervals to chase the first starters home.
First back for the Senior Men was Robbie Marsh, just catching Dave Hampson up the final hill with Barry Graney having too much to do to close the pair down.
The Senior Women had a good turnout including Helena McGoldrick, Chris Dempsey, Cheryl Orrick, Sharon Nunn, Pam Appleton, Sarah and the overall winner Catherine Roberts..

There were some great costumes on display, especially the Grinch winner of the best fancy dress prize. Stiff competition from Andy Pandy and a couple of good Santas and princesses.
Thanks to Antony for most of the photos (there are more over on the club's Facebook site).
A word of thanks from the Chairman
What a fantastic turnout in wet and windy conditions with mud under foot.
A big thank you to every one who ran and a very big thank you to Antony Young for all the work he put in.
The same applies to Ray Vose who did the seniors' yacht handicap, Barry Graney and Robbie marsh who brought all the stakes in at the end.
Not to be forgotten thank you to those who provided the refreshments at the end of the race.
Colin Spark:

Keeping in touch - Junior Members

If you are a Junior Member of the club you should be getting both emails and text messages from us regarding forthcoming events. If you only get one of these then something is wrong with your profile and you need to edit it by logging in.
If you aren't getting either texts or emails, please create a profile on Teamer and search for St Helens Sutton AC Juniors. Let us know if you have any problems.

The service may come in handy over winter if we need to cancel training due to bad weather and we intend to use it instead of sending out paper newsletters.

NW Sportshall League : Widnes - Sunday 11 December

On Sunday 11th December 16 young athletes took part in the NW Sportshall League Meeting at Widnes.  Representing the club for the first time were Louise and Charlotte Cherry, Thomas Standish and Josh Neal. They all did exceptionally well.

Also competing at Sportshall for the 1st time was Anna Pennington.  Other team members were Liz Griffiths, Lizzie Tracey, Rosie Dyer, Olivia Milow, Caitlin Young, Hannah Seabrook, Megan Park, Jennifer Lea Worth, Megan Cunliffe, Joseph Woods and James Tennant.

They should all be proud of their efforts and I look forward to getting the results through later on in the week as quite a few personal bests were known to have been beaten.

L&D Round 3 : Stadt Moers Park, Whiston - Saturday 10 December

Injury, Illness and Christmas commitments meant that, unfortunately, only three Senior men (Chris Burrows 42, Ian White 50 and Dave Hampson) competed in this third and final event in the L&D league. Results

Presentation Evening

This year's presentation evening will be taking place Friday 13th January 2012.  Tickets are now available from Chris Causer at the clubhouse, priced at £4 each or  £12 for a family ticket.  This year this will include a hot pot supper.

As the annual trophies are presented on this night it is essential that they are returned by the end of the year.  Please return any special trophies to Sue Clague or Chris Causer.

As last year, we are hoping to arrange a slide show of photos of our athletes taken through the year.  If you have any photos you'd like to share, and can put them on a CD, please bring these to the club house and pass to your coach or one of the committee.

XMAS FUN RUN – Sunday 18th December, meet at 10.15am, start at 10.30 prompt

The Christmas Handicap will take place at Sherdley Park and is free of charge to all members and their families.
There will be prizes for all Junior Runners and also for the best Fancy Dress Costume.

It doesn’t matter if you are a sprinter, thrower or road warrior, please try and attend this annual get together.
It’s a short run around the park with a staggered start so that we have a big sprint finish.
