Age criteria for League Competitions The age criteria for competing in the leagues the club enters is as follows :- Cheshire League is for U11’s
up to Seniors Northern League - (Senior, U20 & U17). Selection preference is given to the older age groups. U17s can compete if they are invited to do so. Invitations are issued to those deemed to be of sufficient standard. U17s are not allowed to compete in the steeplechase or 5000m. Competition dates are on the fixtures page (see link on left).. Warrington Open Don't forget - We are inviting all Juniors from Under 9's upwards to join Brin Brown and the rest of the team at the Warrington Open this Sunday 3rd April. Please meet no later than 11am at Victoria Park arena, bring a picnic and waterproof clothing. You enter the events that you fancy and pay the entry fee (£2 I think). See you there, see the coaches on Thursday if you need more info. Liverpool Half Marathon - 27 March On a perfect day for running, eight of the club's athletes took part in this well organised race. This year saw the biggest turn out yet with a full house of 7500 runners. The runners took the usual course through three of the city's parks and even had a slight tail wind for the last three miles down the prom (although it probably didn't feel like it by that stage!). First back for the club was Alan Mcnally ( 1:25:44, 173) keeping his London marathon plans on track. Next home Anthony Mousdale ( 1:30:12, 366) followed by Dave Hampson ( 1:33:15, 539) with Antony Young ( 1:44:36, 1766) completing the men's turnout.

The previous week Rob Marsh recorded 2.21.23 (92) in the Trimpell 20 at Lancaster Please note: The Whitley 10k scheduled for Sunday 3 April has been cancelled. Memberships As the club is expecting to welcome more new members following last weekend's 10k we're taking the opportunity to reorganise the nightly subscription collection. From the second of April the subs desk will now have a register of members and tick off those attending. This should simplify the running of the nightly subs desk and help ensure we're providing the right athletes/coach group sizes. Non members can attend the club at the normal training rate £1 (£2 families) for two weeks while they settle in and see how friendly the club is. After this they can join or continue to attend at a visitors rate of £2 (£4 families). There is no pressure to join, however memberships have the advantage of being cheaper and allowing reduced cost entry to many races (EA number). It should also be noted that by not being a member of the club the athlete is not covered by the sports blanket insurance cover and trains at their own risk. Anyone who has not yet paid this years membership, which was due on the 1st Jan, should do so at their earliest opportunity. St Helens 10K Run - 20th March The weather eventually joined in with the spirit of the day and gave us a great day for running to go along with a great event for the town. The club had a good turn out manning the stand, supporting and racing. The club claimed seven of the ten top spots along with first man, first lady & first vet. First home was John Ashcroft, followed by Matty Shirling. Ex Sutton runner Ian Roberts came third, with Jamie Webb following him in. Nathan Brown just held on to beat Gemma Connelly to the line but lost the place on chip time. Next for the club Barry Graney, followed by Jamie White and Robbie Marsh. Ian White and Dennis Wharton completed the men's turnout. Eleven of the club's ladies took part headed by Gemma Connolly (36.26), Julie Pennington set a pb (43.58), Julia Eccleston (46.21), Cheryl Orrick (47.55), Sharon Nunn (52.19) and Joanne Keogh with a pb of 53.04. Results Calling all Tesco shoppers - Sports Vouchers Tesco are running their annual campaign to help clubs and schools collect vouchers to exchange for various items of equipment. Vouchers are available from 28th February to 8th May 2011 and are awarded for every £5 spent on either groceries or petrol. Why not start saving your vouchers and bring along to the Club? We will have a collection box available but you can also hand them in at the desk when you pay your fees. This is a new venture for us and we hope to be able to order some sports equipment. Tickets are strictly limited on a first come, first served basis to over 18’s only. This is a fun event with participants tasting 6 different wines and trying to match them to the tasting notes provided. There will be plenty of wine and I’m sure you’ll agree that it was great value for money afterwards. For the hard core amongst you, I suspect we’ll decamp to The Ship afterwards for last orders! Please invite your friends and family and make this a regular event in the social calendar. For more info: call Ant Young on 07767 310204
3 Peaks Challenge We have enough interest to try and arrange the 3 peaks challenge for June. For those of you not familiar with the concept. The idea is to climb Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon (the 3 biggest mountains in the UK) in 24 Hours. It is likely that we will arrange a weekend in June for the attempt. There is a meeting on Thursday 17th March, 8pm at The Bull & Dog for potential participants to find out more, agree a date and understand what kit and training are needed. We will also be looking for a couple of drivers to accompany the team so please don’t be shy, you’ll have a great time and be an integral part of the attempt. I have done this challenge 4 times and can assure you that this is a very achievable task for anyone that is semi-fit, you don’t need to be super human, but you do need the right attitude and equipment. If you want to know more, please come to the meeting, if you don’t then we may have to go without you as we need to sort out the transport logistics for those serious about taking part. For more info: call Ant Young on 07767 310204
