Jaquie Bowers Folan It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of one of our Junior Members parents. JAQUIE BOWERS FOLAN passed away earlier this week after battling illness. Her funeral is on Thursday 2nd May at Springwood Crematorium, 3pm. Katie and her sister Lauren would be happy to see anyone that knew her and ask that you wear electric blue and yellow clothes if possible (but not compulsory) as these were their mums favourite. On behalf of everyone at the Club we send best wishes and love to Katie, Lauren and the rest of their family and are here for you should you need anything. We look forward to welcoming you back when you are ready. XXX Northern Track and Field Championships Please note – the prospectus covers all championships. Youngest age group is U15 but U13s are permitted to compete as U15s except in triple jump, hammer, 400 or 3000. Liverpool Throws and Jumps Meeting 20 April There were several wins at the above meeting including Michael Causer 7.19 (LJ), Taylor Caton-Hand 6.62 (LJ) & 12.57 (TJ). Patricia Spark finished second in the hammer with 40.20. Patricia also shot putted 8.41, Jonathan Causer recorded 9.69 (SP) and 24.19 (DT) while Nathan Orr threw the discus 26.21.London Marathon 21 April Eight of the club's runners raced in this years London Marathon. Largely a perfect day for running although it was a little hotter than promised in the later stages. One of the big draws of this race is how well it is supported and this year in particular the crowds, whether for Mo or for Boston, were bigger than ever and a huge help to the runners. Gemma Connolly had a good race, improving her
already impressive debut time and coming 9th Senior Female in 2:48:58.
Ian Pass surprised himself by managing to hold
onto an optimistic early pace given that this year he has not trained to
his usual level (475th V40 in 3:10:08) Dorothy Fairhurst (6th V70 in 4:55:22) improved both her position and time this year, and Karen Harrison (848th V45 in 4:59:39) will have been pleased to finish comfortably under the five hour mark, no need for a Sian Williams style sprint finish was there? Wigan Open Meeting Sunday 14th April On Sunday 14th April 25 athletes and supporters made the short trip to wet & windy Wigan to take part in the Open Meeting. Joseph Matthews, Lauren Marshall, Michael Brussels, Jorden Pilkington and Ian Roberts were all competing for the club for the 1st time on the track and did extremely well. Many other athletes recorded PB's despite the atrocious weather which bodes extremely well for the coming months. Well done to Charlie Roberts, Josh Oldham, Elizabeth Greenall, Dylan O'Brien, Taylor Caton Hand, Josh Neal, Ben Oldham, Liam O'Donoghue, Kieran O'Donaghue, Mia Langton, Natalie Tait, Caitlin Young, Jonathan Causer, Michael Causer, Joe Houghton, Emily Smith, Hannah Seabrook, Mike Hughes, Tricia Spark and Nathan Orr. Full results can be found here: Results Liverpool Open Medal Meeting - Saturday 13th April 10 athletes made the short trip to Liverpool to compete in the Open Competition with debut appearances by Dylan O'Brien and Elizabeth Greenall. Both did extremely well for their first competition, trimming a lot off the times achieved in training. Dylan won a Bronze in the 150m and Elizabeth's late charge just wasn't quite enough to secure 3rd place. Much to come from these promising youngsters as they are right at the bottom end of their age group. Jessica Durrance ran a very good U11 600m race to secure a bronze medal, leading from the front early on she was just caught on the second lap but had a strong finish to stay in the medals. Elizabeth Griffiths made her 1st track appearance of the year and ran strongly in a very competitive 600m heat followed soon after by a 150m race. A good start and she looks likely to keep improving with more race experience over the summer. Kaitlin Naylor also had a first track appearance as a youngest age U13 and won Silver in the 75m and ran a great 150m race later in the morning. In the U15 age group Hannah Seabrook made her 1st High Jump appearance of the season but the competition just started as the weather turned from sunny and warm to cold & showery. Not ideal for jumping and there will be much better suited events for Hannah later in the summer. The Lamb brothers Christopher and Matthew continue to make a great impact on athletics having had a great winter in the Sportshall. Chris won Gold in Long Jump having threatened as much in training this week and Silver in the Javelin to go with the one he won at Trafford on Easter Monday. Matty still hasn't even trained for athletics as he finished the swimming season but after representing the NW is last weekend's National Sportshall Finals he won Silvers in 100m and 200m and a Bronze in 300m, what will he do with a bit of training!! Jessica Leonard came off the back of a hard winter training regime to put down a marker to rivals in the sprints with two Golds in 100m and 200m. She had to come from behind in the 100m but her fitness paid off and she finished strongly to win my several metres. In the 200m she made up ground on other athletes within 30m of the start and held that lead down the straight into a biting headwind. Emily Smith had her first hurdles race as an U15 and ran a really smooth, technically sound race to finish in Bronze position in 14.1 secs, again into a strong wind. After a long break she then finished 4th in a big Long Jump class and won Gold in the Javelin to round off a great first meeting of the year. Well done to all of the athletes, apologies if I missed anyone out or if you competed in the afternoon after I had left (to get warm!) Huge thanks to Parents and Coaches for their support today. Nice to see so many there and vocal as ever! Report by Sutty the Bear Results
