The Seniors turned out a good team of 8 for this
match in the L&D series, which as usual combined with the European
cross country trials. There was a large field of nearly 500 runners and
Jonathon Taylor’s winning time of 29:55 minutes for the 9.8k race shows the
quality in the race.
First home for the club, with a last minute sprint past ex
member Mark Davies, was Ian Costello (202, 38:56).
Barry Graney (214, 39:21) was followed in by Tom
Griffiths (261, 41:06) and Ian Hayburn (268, 41:17) who both picked
up places on the last lap. Andy Wilson (283, 41:49) had a good run with
the benefit of off road shoes. Alan McNally (326, 43:16) and Peter
Johnson (369, 45:06) completed the count with Louise Hogg (421, 47:57)
our solo senior female of the day finishing well.

took part in a hotly contested Wine Tasting Open Comp at West Park Rugby
Club.
The eventual winner was pre-race favourite Sue Clague
with a score of 8/12 closely beating Pauline Lamb in a tight
finish. Sue’s performance showed how hard work, dedication and never missing a
weekend training session eventually pays off. She is now looking forward to
defending her title at the end of season presentation evening in a series of
shorter sprint races sponsored by Jagermeister.
The tough course conditions resulted in quite a few sore
limbs the following day, but everyone seemed keen to arrange another race in
2013. Many thanks to Sean and Julie Woosey for arranging access to
the course, Karen Young for putting out the posts, barrier tape, jugs and
glasses and Antony Young for everything else.
Huge thanks to everyone that took part, it was great to see
some new faces supporting the club and we raised just over £60.00 whilst
having a bit of fun.

School Games Sportshall Competition - Friday 9th
November
On Friday 9th November the club helped to officiate at the School Games Sportshall Competition organised by St Helens Council. Over 400 Year 5 & 6
pupils took part with Leigh Vale Primary winning a close fought battle with Bleak Hill.
It was great to see so many of our athletes representing their schools and the victorious squad (pictured here with Sutty) contained 7 current St Helens Sutton
athletes and a further 5 that have attended Sportshall training with us in the last 12 months.
Well done to everyone for taking part and Damian Keegan at the Council and Kevin Hill from Sportshall for organising such a superb event.
Athletics is alive and well in St Helens Schools!
St
Helens 10K Launch
Once again the club are involved with the St Helens 10K

Race.
The adult race was launched yesterday at Langtree Park and the club was
represented by Chris Dempsey.

for all November Entrants.

The feedback to the run last year was very positive but the
10K committee have noted a few important pieces of feedback and are working to
fix those things in 2013. We hope to have a strong turnout from the club again
promoting the sport in our hometown.
Help required - Manchester League Cross Country, Sherdley Park - Saturday
11th
The club will again be hosting a match in the popular Manchester League
series this weekend. As usual we aim to make it the best course of the
series and an enjoyable day for all involved. This does mean there are a
lot of jobs to enjoy helping with, from early morning course setting (the
sunrise is spectacular!) to marshalling (anything from ten minutes cover for a
tea break to an all day stint in a puddle).
If you are free that day, supporting your child or even running yourself -
please offer to help you'll be warmly welcomed!
Please contact your coach or a member of the committee if you can help out.
London Marathon places
There was no need for a ballot this year as the club only
had two of its members who satisfied the criteria for the first call on the
club's places. The lucky recipients this year are Antony Young and
Karen Harrison and the club wish them best of luck and a long injury free
build up.
Exciting new Partnership with
Liverpool John Moore’s University
The club has just confirmed the creation of an exciting new
partnership with LJMU which will give our members access to some of the
latest research, coaching techniques and performance equipment across a wide
range of subjects. Please read the documents linked below for further details
and speak to your coach or Ant Young if you would like to take part in the
programme.
LJMU Parents and Athletes Letter
Press Release
Special General Meeting :
Membership fees.
After considering the options to handle the increase
in fees imposed on all clubs by England Athletics (EA) the Committee
presented its proposal at the recent SGM. The proposal was agreed by
the membership and will see the club absorbing some of the increased costs
to avoid members having to find a large increase in difficult times.
The new membership fees can be found on the
membership form in detail, but in
brief there is a basic increase of four pounds across the board to cover
the increased fees.
An undertaking to consult with the clubs and to
review the setting of fees was agreed at the recent EA AGM but the current
fees were not negotiable at this time. We are confident we can fund
the EA affiliation fees this way, but will keep the clubs finances under
review over the next year.
The new fees are effective 1st January 2013.
Any athletes joining now will pay the new rate but their membership will
be valid until December 2013. It is the first increase in membership
fees for many years, and still leaves us as one of the best clubs to be
members of, in both value and friendliness.
