Cheshire League – Sunday 8th July

The forthcoming fixture is ideal for newer athletes to try a competition for the 1st time. Cheshire League meetings tend to be really friendly and we can enter new athletes as non scorers meaning that they aren’t under any pressure to win points for the team. Helena McGoldrick is Team Manager and a number of the Coaches will be there to help athletes and parents to find their feet.

The Track & Field Season is almost at an end so don’t miss this opportunity to see how well you have developed and what training is needed over winter. Speak to your coach for details.

Senior members – The meeting is also for seniors so please join in and have a run out. Why not try a new event for the 1st time?

Many thanks to all who helped over the three meetings- a big thank you to Jamie Ford who acted as a runner with the results (the fastest results of the three league meetings) Well Done Jamie!!

Hope to see you all next year at the Young Athletes League meetings.

Team Manager- Helena McGoldrick.

THANK YOU to the all of the parents who helped at Young Athletes League at Victoria Park. There are too many to mention individually (and I’m frightened of missing someone). Many hands definitely make light work – we covered refreshments, results, First Aid, provided packed lunches, officials, timekeepers, hurdle removals. Our star volunteer was Jamie who ran backwards and forwards all day between the timekeepers and the results office, always with a smile on his face. A shining example for us all.

There is a huge amount of work to be done when hosting a competition and a comment was made indicating how little of this is seen. Never be shy of volunteering, there is something for everyone.

Thanks again – Chris Dempsey, Secretary

Northern League Division 2 – Wavertree 26 May

The club recorded a remarkable third place, one point ahead of Blackpool, to maintain second place at the half way point of the League season. It was remarkable because of the number of late withdrawals through illness and injury which deprived us of the services of Maria McLoughlin, Sophie Rigby, Chloe Rigby, Jaime White, Maurice Collins and Ian Costello. In addition, Steve Clague and Peter Seddon were injured during the steeplechase and 100m and were unable to complete their allotted number of events.

It was all hands to the pump as Mike McGoldrick made his track debut, partnering Stan Erlam in the 1500m, Gemma Connolly covered for Maria in the 800, Emma McClatchey for Chloe in the high jump and Tricia Spark for Sophie in the long jump. Mike covered for Peter in the 200m. Phil Robinson was at his imperious best, Greg Williams filled in where required. Michael Causer put the icing on the cake with a long jump of 7.42 which moves him up to third in the National U20 rankings.

Many thanks to all the athletes and officials who contributed to another splendid afternoon of enjoyable athletics carried out in a sporting and united atmosphere.   Result

There were victories for Hannah Seabrook (HJ), Sophie Rigby and Heather Drillingcourt (LJ), Taylor Caton-Hand (LJ), Michael Causer U20 100) and plenty of youngsters who braved the atrocious conditions to compete.  Results
