Julie Finn made her club debut by finishing thirteenth in the Salford Women's 5 mile road race, as the club took sixth place in the team race. Eleanor Reynolds (24) 38.57, Chris Dempsey (33) 42.01 and Dorothy Fairhurst (67) 49.42 completed the team count, Chris collecting fifth position in the L45 and Dorothy second in the L60 category. At Leeds Dennis Wharton recorded 39.36 to finish tenth in his age category at the Leeds Abbey Dash. As the results are given in alphabetical order Denis is being asked to change his name to Dennis Ace for next year's race!!

David Forrester clinched his place in the Great Britain Junior team for the European cross country championships in Toro, Spain on 9th December with an assured and emphatic victory in 20.55 over last year's UK Challenge Series winner, Lee Carey of Nuneaton. New member Danny Griffiths made the top twenty five although we are still waiting for the official results to confirm times.

In senior women's race Sarah Charnock impressed the Cheshire selectors by finishing as the fourth county runner recording 32.45 in 68th place.

In the Liverpool & District first impressions are that the team finished fourth in the team race but this has to be confirmed. Provisional results show Matt Cullen (6th 35.12), Barry Graney(23rd 36.58), Ian Costello (27th 38.04), Matt Shillabeer (44th 39.48), Peter Johnson (49th 40.59) and Dennis Wharton (53rd 42.10) making the count with Derek Ireland (111th 53.16) turning out for his second run of the season providing the back up and finishing higher than last time. Ian is looking for additional marshals when we stage the Manchester Area League match on Sunday 2 December. All seniors who are not competing are expected to assist or face the prospect of having all future matches held on other clubs' courses.

The team results from the Sportshall meeting held at Wigan have been released and individual results are now available on the Sports Hall website. The U11 Girls drew with Halton & Frodsham on the day and are now in second place overall. Their counterparts in the U11 Boys got the better of Macclesfield and are now in sixth place, 17 points behind Sale who they beat on the day. The U13 girls maintained their consistent scoring to consolidate themselves in fifth place, closing the gap on Deeside to two and a half points. All three teams have a chance of making the Regional final provided they have a good turn out in the final match at Deeside College on 20 January 2008. Full details of the venue from Julia Hayes.

There were ten U11 boys in action on the day (Callum Baxter, Daniel Elston, Jamie Dinnar, Keiron Garrity, Jonathan Causer, Ryan Derbyshire, Ellis James, Ben Walsh, Ben Hayburn and Owen Kennedy) while the girls had seven taking part (Bethan Baldwin, Shelby Jack, Amy Ellis, Bethany Baxter, Sally Ashton, Lauren Wilcock and Rachel Woosey)

The U13 girls' quintet were Tricia Spark, Liane Bibby, Louise Hayes, Amanda Paton and Rachel Wilcock while the U15 duo of Joanna Bebbington and Heather Drillingcourt covered their full quota of events. Results

Tuhin "Chewy" Wahid finished a splendid fifteenth in this event in his home county of Derbyshire, recording 37.30. Results

Over 40 athletes attended this match, all bar the unlucky Ian White, completing the course in a splendid afternoon's running. This season all races except the younger age groups are three to count so John Ashcroft (2), David T Griffiths (5) and Jamie White (6) secured a team win for the U15 boys for the second time in succession, with Danny Hughes (8) and Jamie White (16) providing the depth required for the championship season.

Chelsea Jarvis won the U13 race, Rachael Wilcock (15) and Vicky Lamb (21) clinching third position with Louise Hayes (23) and Becky O'Brien (28) providing support.

Both U13 teams finished in the top three, Daniel Elston (3), Owen Kennedy (10), Jonathan Causer (15) and Scott Houghton (16) secured a win for the boys and Rosie Johnson (4), Elisha Cain (11), Danielle Webb (19), Lucy Griffiths (20) and Bethany Baxter (24) grabbed second for the girls.

Jemma Shaw (4) Heather Drillingcourt (12) and Natalie Garrity (18) scored for the girls, Lauren Bradshaw (21), Jenny Lamb (27) and Joanna Bebbington (29) moving the club into fourth place on the day while the U17 trio of Jake Healy (11), Steve Clague (17) and Adam Fackey (21) were sixth for the second race in succession.

Sarah Charnock (5), Gemma Connolly (10), Julia Eccleston (29) and Karen Jarvis (37), scored for the ladies who were third; Karen, Chris Dickinson (61), Chris Dempsey (74) and Susan Clague (102) ensured we had a full ladies' veterans team. Eleanor Reynolds provided midway support with a good run in 49th place and a digital camera for the picture below..

There were more men this time Matt Cullen finishing eighth, Matt Shillabeer 59th, Peter Johnson (97) and Dennis " Waver" Wharton seventh in his age category.

The team results are based on the best four performances out of five and on current form we lead in the U15 Boys, are second in the senior ladies, third in the U13 and U15 girls while the U11's are first and second with all three races to count. Gill Laithwaite returned to competition by finishing 64th in the Brampton to Carlisle road race recording 61.30, taking fourth place and being awarded second veteran over 35 in a high quality field with the race and over 35 category won by international Hayley Haining. Results

According to the British Masters' website Stan Erlam still holds the British best Over 55, 3000m track record of 9.40.4. which he achieved on 8 September 1996. This is the best pre-2000 performance that has been identified so we'll enjoy the privilege until - and if - a better one is found to replace it.

A trio of senior ladies competed in a trial race in Nice over the weekend, supported by Louise Hogg and Julia Eccleston. Sarah Charnock, who is listed as running twice(!), won the ladies race in 42.24, Karen Jarvis was sixth in 48.55 and Eleanor Reynolds 14th in 53.19. These excellent results were achieved despite problems getting to the venue (no comments about women not being able to read maps please!). Results

The club opened its Liverpool & District Cross Country account by finishing fourth, only missing out to Wirral on countback. Matt Cullen led the team counters finishing fifth, Mark Laithwaite(11), Ian Costello (16), Barry Graney (18) with the last two counters Matt Shillabeer (34) and Ian Hayburn (38) scoring 122, the same as Wirral. With Dave Forrester, Greg Williams, Tony Smith and Steve Mayers amongst the missing it was a good result. Ian White (42) showed the benefit of regular racing, while Peter Johnson (48) just finished ahead of Steve Tate (50). Dennis Wharton (61) - position not age - and David Ireland (104) completed the count while Tony Raffle started the race. The next match is the combined event with the Reebok Challenge race at Sefton Park in a fortnight. Results

The Northern Senior League matches will take place against Blackpool, East Cheshire, Holmfirth, Spenborough & Wigan. The dates are :- Saturday 3 May Wigan: Saturday 7 June Spenborough; Sunday 6 July Holmfirth; Sunday 3 August Blackpool. We have yet to decide whether to enter the Cup Competition. These matches are open to all under 17's, junior and senior athletes - based on selection - and represent the club's most important League fixtures. We have an outside chance of promotion but must guard against complacency to stave off relegation. Phil Thomas is the team manager.

The National Junior League matches are against Cheshire Tigers, LPS, North Wales; SouthportWaterloo Warrington and Wirral. The provisional dates (all Sundays) and venues are 27 April TBD; 28 May Bebington; 29 June Ormskirk or Wavertree; 27 July Connahs Quay. Sue Clague is the team manager. Our aim is a place in the top four. Matches are open to under 17's and Under 20's only.

The National Young Athletes League matches are for Under 17's Under 15's and Under 13's. The dates (all Sundays), venues and opposition (who change from match to match) are as follows: Our aim is to maintain our position in division one which we can do with a full turn out in each match.

Dave Forrester has been awarded a place on UKA's World Class Talent squad. These are athletes who it is anticipated will reach Olympic standard within eight years. Dave had a superb year on cross country and track this year but, as the award shows, it's only the start of the process of getting to the very top. Our congratulations to Dave, his coach Ray Vose and a reminder to everyone that the same road is open to all members willing to work hard enough to realise their dreams.

A trio of athletes competed in this race, Matt Cullen finishing fifth in 40.52, Sam Scott 97th in 52.29 and Jill Colbert fifth over 35 with a time of 55.41.

Four teams contested the National Cross Country Relays at Mansfield, the U13 girls' team of Chelsea Jarvis (7.32), Rachel Wilcock (8.24) and Louise Hayes (8.59) combining for 27th place, the same as the U15 boys' trio of John Ashcroft 6.54), Jamie White (6.57) and Danny Hughes (6.56).

Jemma Shaw (7.41), Heather Drillingcourt (8.13) and Lauren Bradshaw (8.12) earned the U15 girls' team 44th place while Jake Healy (10.37), Adam Fackey (11.14) and Steve Clague (10.57) finished 71st. in the U17 race.

The distances were short, the course narrow at times and the race recorded to chip times which are available on the ECCA website. Results:

Annual General Meeting of the Northern Track & Field Meeting. Dewsbury 3 November

Phil Thomas represented the club at the League AGM at which we proposed several resolutions. The first was that the women's and men's pole vaults would be run together at the start of the meeting. The meeting also agreed to look in depth at the time management of the meeting (in particular the long throws). Proposals from other clubs to reduce promotion to one up and one down was rejected as was a proposal to introduce minimum standards for scoring points. A similar proposal for the National Young Athletes League in two weeks time has also been withdrawn, although as a club we should continue to strive to raise own level of performances in order to compete effectively.
