The club had a host of winners and personal bests at the George Edwards meeting on Bank Holiday and it would be invidious to select any one of them, particularly as some are still missing. The list of known results are attached and any amendments should be sent to Phil Thomas as soon as possible. The under 13 girls won every competition they took part in, including a surprised Lucy Renshall in the high jump for which she volunteered the previous Thursday night!!! Had we had a second high jumper available the girls could have scored the first clean sweep of an age group in the history of the club. Lucy also won her hurdles race alongside Danielle McGifford who also won the long jump in support of Chelsea Jarvis who won the 800 and 150, Rose Hindley taking the 150, Tricia Spark and Becky O'Brien the shot, debutant Vicky Lamb the 800, Rachel Wilcock and Louise Hayes the metric mile, Liane Bibby and Amanda Paton the sprints with the 4x100m relay team emphatically taking the final event. It wasn't Phil's fault all he had to do was tell the only pole vaulter he couldn't take part because he hadn't brought a pole with him!!!!! Phil also acted as announcer (which Chris Dempsey and Roger McCall also undertook at various times) Chris leading the team of Alana and Cameron in producing a set of results on the day. A word too for Clare Fraser who produced superb cups of tea and coffee for all and sundry (especially those who didn't take milk), John Irwin for providing refreshments and the first aid kit which Chris Dempsey dispensed. Finally thanks to all the parents who got the athletes to the venue and supported them throughout the afternoon. Slightly further up the field the youthful Dennis Wharton was 205th in 38.17. The club was the only one to provide a full set of officials and thanks should go to Referee Dave Morley and Julia Hayes on the track, Pam Appleton and Janet Holmes on the timekeepers' stand while John Irwin, Colin Sparks, Carl Bibby, Michael Hughes, Sean Bannister, Jessica Drillingcourt, Phil Thomas and Andy Drillingcourt also served in various capacities, Phil also acting as team manager. Many thanks to the supporters and parents, although I've never really understood why everyone gathers on the hill instead of taking the shelter below. Then again I've never understood why people follow my directions when I failed geography at school but I understand those who found other parks first in the Stockport area said they were very nice to look at. A628/A626 there's not that much of a difference is there? You should all have learned from Mrs McGifford's trip to Wrexham last year that my directional sense is as good as a stranded whale in the Thames - and not too many comments about the whale either!!! Thanks to Mrs Fackey for allowing me to use her tent and to all tent owners who provided shelter to a variety of people throughout the afternoon - sometimes with permission. We are all looking forward to a good turnout in our home match at Warrington next time. It usually rains there as well. Report from Phil Thomas. Results.
