Trafford Grand Prix: 28 April
Liane Bibby won the U17 javelin competition with a club record throw of 32.10m
National Junior League -Warrington 26 April
Thanks to an abundance of club spirit by athletes, superb organisation skill by team manager, Sue Clague and commitment by club officials, the club produced its best Junior League result for three years finishing an excellent fifth with just under 300 points on a fine day at Victoria Park, Warrington. Last year we had difficulty reaching three figures (half of which were usually scored by officials) which shows how much we have progressed in 12 months.
Amy Hughes made a superb winning debut in the 400m hurdles, Jenny Lamb surprised herself with what she achieved over 400m in the relay as did Josie Barrow while Kathryn Sumner and Lucy Croft completed a fine afternoon's throwing by volunteering to run the 4x400. It was a remarkable performance. Bearing in mind the number of U17's taking part the performances were more important than the positions including 24.3 for Tom Green in the 200, John Ashcroft and Jamie White in the 1500 with Danny Hughes and Nathan Brown in the 800.
The scratch 4x100m team of Nathan Brown, Tom Green, Danny Hughes and elder statesman Steve Clague produced a unique performance. Steve's experience was supplemented by other juniors including Jake Healy in the 3000 and Adam Fackey in the throws. Nathan Brown's discus throwing had to be seen to be believed while Thaddeus Anim-Somuah warmed up for the BUSA's with a controlled 100m.
There were also good contributions from second claim members Scott McEwan who won the triple jump while Adam Nicholls and James Sutton were second in the A & B long jump, while Abigail Fitzgerald contested both sprints for the ladies
Heather Drillingcourt continued her return to fitness over 800, Sophie Rigby was within a fraction of clearing 1.65 after winning the long jump with a personal best 5.02 and clearing the pole vault alongside Josie Barrow, while Natasha Le Surf made sure she did not miss the 4x100 relay.
Thanks to George Mullinieux, John Irwin and Colin Sparks on the field, Colin later moving over to the assistant starter's role. Julia Hayes served on the track, Pam Appleton and Janet Holmes were our timekeepers, while John dispensed tea and sandwiches in between his other duties. Many thanks to Doug Hanna (Wirral A C) for producing the results on the day within ten minutes of the final event. Thanks too to the ground staff at Warrington M B C for their usual efficient services. Results:

Please note - Merseyside Schools' Track and Field Championships 13 June The above championships will now take place at Bebington Oval, not Wavertree as previously indicated. Apparently the latter venue wanted too much money for staging the event (the capital of Culture PR exercise must be over and it's back to normal). Northern 12 Stage and 6 Stage Road Relays - Stockport Sunday 5 April Sue Clague turned back the years recording the fastest stage in the Northern Road Relays with Lyn White, making her championship debut, just behind her on a sensational afternoon at Woodbank Park. Sue has the official printed results to prove how good she was but unfortunately, as often happens in races where different stage runners come back at different times, her 7.57 (five minutes quicker than several internationals) time was adjusted later to 23.56 on the website version. Sue completed the women's team of Chris Dempsey(19.00), Joanne Keogh (20.38), Rosie O'Hagan (20.15 - the fastest ** year old on the third stage), Jane Ashcroft (20.55 - another debutant), Lyn White (20.55 - who preferred her original 12.58!!) and finally Sue as the girls moved through steadily from 43rd to 40th out of 53 entrants, finishing as the second Merseyside team. All six girls said they are looking forward to the four stage event in September when we should have Gemma Connolly, Joanne Clisham-Marsh, Louise Hogg and Julia Eccleston available. There was great team spirit with everyone heeding the advice to arrive early and finishing fourth Merseyside team behind Liverpool, Wirral and SouthportWaterloo. The long stage runners Paul Carrier 24.28, Barry Graney 23.54, Greg Williams 24.02, Ray Vose 27.19, Ian White 24.57 and Ian Costello 25.46 were evenly matched and had Ian Hayburn in reserve if he were needed. The short stage runners were also well matched Peter Johnson (15.21), Steve Clague (14.09), Dennis Wharton (15.20), Billy Mousdale (15.43), Mark Davies (15.28) and Jim Crehan (14.47) showing remarkable consistency as the club recorded 4.01.14. The superb Stan Erlam was available for cover if he was required, another example of the great team spirit in the club. Excellent team selection from Ian White and Ian Hayburn and with Matt Crehan, Dave Forrester and Jake Healey available in September the outlook is bright. The team finished 43rd overall out of 62 entrants: Results: Women Men David Forrester competed in the elite race at the Great Ireland Run recording 30.29 for the 10k, finishing less than a minute behind Bolton Olympian Tom Lancashire.
