Welcome to St Helens Sutton Athletic Club December Results 2006 New Year's Eve: Gill Laithwaite was eighth at the Ribble Valley 10k, recording 36.28 behind internationals Helen Clitheroe, Jenny Blizzard, Vicky Gill and Pauline Powell amongst others but lifting the award for the first lady over 35. Julia Eccleston recorded 45.41 (60) and Jo Clisham-Marsh 46.05 (71). Stan Erlam zipped round in 43.11 to finish second in the over 65 category while Robbie Marsh was 98th in 37.17. Dorothy Fairhurst settled for the shorter Festive Five at Waythenshaw, taking third place in the over 65 age group with 46.57. Chester Round The Walls Race - Boxing Day Seven veterans and a lady competed in the traditional Round The Walls event which ends on the Racecourse. Many's the time.... anyway the lady was Diane Appleton who finished in 36.05 (237) just behind her youthful looking mother, Pamela (218 - 35.28) while the veterans were led by John Appleton (166 - 33.15), Chris Dickinson (184 0 33.53) and Karen Jarvis (197 - 34.43). Rosie O'Hagan tracked Diane home (241 - 36.11) while Janet Holmes finished in 49.40 (418), one place ahead of brother John Irwin (419 -49.59) who dropped back to chat to another competitor. Well that's his story - and I believe him! Leyland 10k - Boxing Day Trevor Prescott had a run out in this traditional fixture finishing 301st (179) in 62.01, the first over 75 to finish. Christmas Handicap - Sherdley Park 17 December :Report by Ian Hayburn Karen Jarvis won the Senior Ladies race with an adjusted time of 14.44 (4.00 handicap). Chris Dickinson 15.06 (4.30) was second just ahead of scratch runner Gill Laithwaite (15.13). Chris Dempsey 15.15 (4.00) finished just behind with handicapper Julia Eccleston bringing up the rear in 16.15 (2.00). Julia did an excellent job as all runners (apart from herself) finished within 31 seconds of each other in the handicap. Julia was obviously too generous to the other ladies!! Men’s handicapper Ian Hayburn resisted the temptation to make some last minute adjustments to the handicaps, despite several of the runners looking decidedly worse for wear following the previous night’s festivities at the Seniors’ Christmas night out. Dave Twigg 12.47 (2.00) won a closely fought battle with Barry Graney 12.51 (2.15) to take first prize with scratch runner Dave Forrester (13.04) finishing in third place. Ray Vose 13.16 (2.40), Phil Robinson 13.28 (4.00) and Stan Erlam 13.38 (4.20) completed the field. Results Many thanks go to Julia Hayes and John Irwin for organising the event and setting the course. Open Meeting - Sports City - 17 December Thaddeus Anim-Somuah opened his indoor season with 7.39 over 60metres, followed by a winning 7.38 later and 23.51 over 200m. Great Langdale Trail Race - 17 December Sarah Charnock won the ladies' race by 10 seconds recording 39.21 over this seven mile course. Open Meeting - Sports City - 3 December Samantha Fraser competed at this event recording 10.16 in the 60m hurdles and winning the Under 15 shot putt with 8.85.m Manchester Area League - Macclesfield 3 December. Report by Julia Eccleston. On a muddy Sunday seven of the senior ladies contested a changed Macclesfield course from last year which included hazards of barbed wire and leaning trees. Sarah Charnock, who razzed down the M1 from Durham early Sunday morning, struggled round in ninth place, in 32.51 just in front of the unlucky Gemma Connolly, whose spike had a losing fight with the mud, resulting in an unscheduled stop before claiming 14th spot in 33.32 wearing both spikes. Julia Eccleston was 22nd in 35.21 with Christine Dempsey completing the team count in 36th place - 37.27. Jo Clisham-Marsh made Chris battle all the way finishing 37th in 37.30. Karen Jarvis 38.12 (38th) and Chris Dickinson brought the ladies home in 39.18 (45th). The team came 5th overall. Lessons learned - Gemma using tape next time out. Karen sticking to her own tactics - don't listen to the captains they know nothing! Contrary to provisional results, the under 15 girls did finish a team with Jemma Shaw (11), Lauren Bradshaw (14) and Heather Drillingcourt (15) all making the count and keeping the club in with a chance of team medals. Katherine Rumsey (15) led the under 13 girls home supported by Louise Hayes (32) and Kathryn Wilson (33). Chelsea Jarvis was an easy winner of the under 11 contest and found excellent support again from the improving Lucy Renshaw (14) and Alisha Kane (17). In the Boys' races Jamie White was sixth under 13 to finish while John Ashcroft and Danny Hughes were 13th and 14th respectively in the under 15 event. Results |
