                       The successful girls' team meet with the Mayor.

St Helens Primary Schools' Sports Hall Meeting 1 November

The club played an important part in staging the St Helens Primary Schools' Sports Hall meeting on 1 November. Council Officials Terry Bates and George Tattum joined with Julia Frazer in praising the work of club members in making the event the most successful ever staged. Organiser Terry Arnold, Julia Hayes, Anna Sheffield, Joe Ehlen, Roseanne Hutchinson, Sue Clague, Dave Morley, Nicola Quinn, Caroline Morley and many others joined with local teachers to ensure the event went well. Julia and Terry will be joining Council officials at the inter-town finals later in the month.

Liverpool & District League : Beacon Park, Skelmersdale 8 November

Tony Smith led the club into an enterprising third place at the first Liverpool & District match. Tony finished fifth behind two Liverpool and two Wirral athletes    and found plenty of support from the junior team Barry Cunliffe(21), Steve Mayers (28) and Greg Williams (33) with Chris Geraghty (32) and Barry Graney (34) closing in for a score of 153 points to grab third behind Liverpool   & Wirral.

Ian Hayburn (55), Ian White (69), Andy Boyack (102) and track and field man Phil Robinson (111) made it a baker's dozen in the first outing of the season.

North West Women's League : Macclesfield 15 November                        

Seven senior ladies competed in the second League match at Macclesfield, Louise

Casey (29) consolidating her lead in the club championship supported by Juila Eccleston (44), Chris Dempsey (50) and Cecilia Fitzsimons (53) making an early but welcome return from injury. The team was eighth overall. Chris & Cecilia led Pam Appleton (62) and Margaret Hunter-Frackelton (76) into sixth place in the vets team competition. Lisa Bluett made her long delayed return to cross-country running in 64th place. After this 400's should be easy.

League Races :November 15

Dave Forrester won the Manchester & District League at Macclesfield, finishing 11 seconds clear of the field while Laura Davenport's 11th place in the North Staffs League on Stafford Common was enough to steer Staffs Uni into second place in the team race. The team has high hopes for the BUSF title in 2004

North West Sportshall League : 16 November 2003

The club lie second in the under 11 girls' category following an impressive victory over Wattington at Widnes. Katy Waterworth won the individual chest push, Zoe Woodward was under a minute in the 4 lap, Laura Crook scored a trio of wins and Heather Drillingcourt won two events. Lauren Hyde and Louise Hayes were in the top three while Lucy Waterworth performed well in the chest push & 2 lap.

Andrew Hutchinson notched up 27 points with three top six placings, Vicky Johnson amassed 48 in the throws and jumps while our sextet of under 13 boys, (Graeme Morley, Adam Taft, Lee Taft, Ben Clough, Mike Ehlen and Anthony Marsh) took seven first places between them to defeat Stafford by 13 points.

The girls are 13th overall and the lads 14th after three rounds, the under 11 girls 13.5 points behind Crewe & Nantwich and the under 13 Boys19.5 points adrift of West Cheshire in their age group. Results

Reebok Challenge Sefton Park, November 22

In a combined race involving several League and Challenge competitors the initial results from UK Athletics show the overall finishing position of our athletes who took part. Dave Forrester was 24th in 9.24, under 13's Ben Clough & Mike  Ehlen were 25th and 30th in 10.38 and 10.45 respectively. Sara McLoughlin & Kim Bridge took 49th and 55th places in 12.00 and 12.09. Congratulations to all and to those who supported including John Irwin and Mrs Ehlen.

Liverpool & District League: November 22

The L&D continues to go from bad to worse with the senior men's race starting   up to four minutes early, leaving several athletes struggling to make the start line   on time. Chris Geraghty and Steve Mayers led the club home supported by Greg Williams, Barry "I missed the start" Graney, Ian White, Ian Hayburn, Ray Vose and Phil Robinson. The team took fifth place and are third overall with one match to go. Although the senior men's race remain vaguely attractive the purpose of the L&D appears to have evaporated and, for younger age groups at least, there are other more relevant competitions which the Committee will be considering.

Inter-Town Sports Hall Meeting : Wigan 22 November

Team managers Joe Ehlen, Roseanne Hutchinson, Julia Hayes and Liz Devine report a successful day with the girls finishing second and the boys third overall. Full details when known.

Salford Ladies' 5 : Swinton 30 November

Louise Casey and Zoe Strong led the way as the club collected six prizes at the popular Salford 5. Louise was ninth, Zoe 12th, Julia Eccleston 22nd & Pam Appleton 34th as the team closed in just five points behind Wilmslow Running Club. Pam collected the prize as the first over 50 to finish. Toni Garnett had a splendid run in 40th place, Dorothy Fairhurst just got the better of Margaret Hunter-Frackelton while Jean Dearing and Janice Lawson ran together to finish in 49.03. Sue Howarth crossed the line with Janet McCormack in a much improved 54.04.

The supporters' club were out in force including team manager, Phil Thomas, John Appleton, Ally Young, Steve Eccleston and offspring (all of whom circulated the road race leaflets), Mike Dearing, David Bailey and Frank.       It was superb to see so many Sutton vests pounding towards the finish line.

 "Over the Bales" Meeting: Crossford Bridge 30 November

The under 11 girls' squad produced the good when it mattered claiming third spot  against tough opposition at Sale. Counters Zoe Woodward, Laura Crook, Joanne Sturgeon and Sammi Gaines scored 71 points with support coming from the dependable Katie Jolley. Louise Hayes was a creditable 19th in the under 9 race.

A trio of under 13 Boys assessed their fitness Ben Clough, Mike Ehlen and Steve Clague all benefiting from their first real competition of the season. The pre and post Christmas schedules have now been drawn up for the assault on retention of the county championship title.Results:
